Nestled on the charming Via dei Cimatori in the heart of Florence, I Fratellini is a beloved sandwich shop and deli that artfully captures the spirit of traditional Tuscan fast food. This unassuming spot is a treasure trove for anyone craving authentic Florentine flavors served up quickly but with undeniable care and quality. Whether you’re after a hearty panino or an inviting glass of vino rosso, I Fratellini delivers an impressive culinary experience that feels both local and refreshingly genuine.
The true star of I Fratellini’s menu is its incredible range of sandwiches, presented on expertly baked schiacciata bread that is crisp yet tender, offering the perfect canvas for an array of rich, savory fillings. The Panino con Finocchiona e Crema di Formaggio dazzles with the earthy bite of Tuscan salami balanced by the creamy, subtle tang of cheese, while the Roast Pork with Green Sauce (Porchetta con Salsa Verde) bursts with robust, slow-roasted flavors complemented by a lively herbaceous kick. Each bite transports you straight to the rustic heart of Tuscany.
The portions here are wonderfully generous — truly a feast that satisfies both hunger and craving. Customers highlight favorites such as ham, mozzarella, and tomato combinations, as well as more adventurous pairings like aringhe e salsa verde (herring with green sauce), offering a delightful mix of textures and tastes. The freshness of ingredients is consistently praised, underscoring I Fratellini’s commitment to quality that elevates an otherwise simple sandwich to something memorable.
Beyond food, the atmosphere embodies the essence of old-school Florentine conviviality. It’s a fast-paced yet inviting spot where locals and travelers alike can grab a quick bite, enjoy a friendly exchange at the counter, and soak in the understated charm of a quiet street just steps from Piazza della Signoria. Many appreciate the speedy service and the option to pair their sandwich with a well-crafted Aperol Spritz or a robust glass of Vino Rosso, enhancing the whole experience with a touch of Italian sophistication.
What stands out in customer feedback is the feeling of authenticity and value. Though there might be other sandwich spots nearby with longer lines, I Fratellini offers a satisfying alternative that doesn’t compromise on taste or size. Whether you’re refueling after a sunny afternoon wandering Florence’s historic streets or looking for a casual yet flavorful bite, I Fratellini hits the mark with its balanced combination of excellent ingredients, generous servings, and a no-fuss ambiance.
In essence, dining at I Fratellini is like a warm, hearty hug from Florence itself — simple, genuine, and utterly delicious. It’s more than just a spot for a sandwich; it’s an opportunity to savor the soulful flavors of Tuscan tradition in a setting that feels intimately local and effortlessly welcoming.
There is another nearby shop that sells similar sandwiches with a very long line. We tried this one due to a recommendation from our Airbnb host. The wait wasn't too long. The sandwiches are huge as seen from the pictures. They're not bad. I assume the local sandwiches are all similar and I can't justify the long line for it.
Great traditional sandwich spot, lots of choice on the menu and all ingredients were super fresh. Huge portions, we had x2 panini speciali between 5 adults. Went for ham, mozzarella & tomato (no.3), and salami & artichoke (no.18) - both very delicious!
Great traditional sandwich spot in Florence — worth a visit. A classic, old-school sandwich shop tucked away down a quiet street in Florence. They have loads of options to choose from, with generous portions and very reasonable prices. Service was quick and they also offer takeaway drinks at good prices, which is a nice touch. The sandwich itself was packed with fresh, flavourful fillings and felt properly traditional. The only slight downside is that the bread is very crusty, making the sandwich a little dry overall — something to be aware of if you prefer softer bread. Also, there’s no seating outside, so it’s more of a grab-and-go spot. That said, it’s still a great, authentic place for a proper Tuscan sandwich. Would happily recommend for a quick, tasty bite while exploring the city.
Grabbed schiacciata sandwiches after long exhausting hot afternoon traveling and touring Florence. Quick service, grab and go sit on a stoop to enjoy. Would recommend a sandwich with more sauce - mine was slightly dry. My husband had the #3 and loved it.
Well-known Florentine spot near Piazza della Signoria, famous for its schiacciata sandwiches. The filling was good, but the schiacciata itself carried the experience — light, crisp, aromatic. The line was long, about 30–40 minutes at I Fratellini, but the wait paid off.
Long queues for a sandwich but the line does move fairly quickly so don’t like this discourage you! Lots of options, I visited twice and tried both the panini and the sandwich - I preferred the panini as found the sandwich was a bit dry. I tried the ham, cream cheese and rocket, and the salami - both used high quality ingredients and were enjoyable. A good lunch option when around the cathedral!
The porchetta was very good. Service was great and extremely fast. The sandwich was slightly dry so I just would add a sauce next time to make it perfect.
